Job Title: | Hemodialysis Technician |
Job Duties: | Maintains a safe, clean and orderly environment for patients. Prepares the patient station and hemodialysis machines, dialysers, appropriate lines, and dialysate bath, as prescribed. Recognizes and corrects problems involving dialyzer leaks or defects in arterial or venous lines. Stocks all areas with needed supplies. Obtains and records patient weights on the dialysis treatment flow-sheet records, pre and post dialysis. Initiates and terminates hemodialysis treatment according to policy and procedure. Obtains and records periodic clotting times during treatments when applicable. Reports any adverse symptoms or reactions to treatments. Responds to alarms and makes appropriate adjustments during treatments. Monitors and records vital signs according to policy. Assists in basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Recognizes and reacts appropriately to signs and symptoms of common dialysis complications. Employs Universal precautions. Monitors the infusion of heparin via heparin pump. Cleans and disinfects equipment following procedures as assigned, and performs disinfection of equipment. Uses proper techniques when using equipment. Assists in the transportation of patients. Performs other related duties as assigned. |

Qualification Requirements: | Graduation from High School, General Education Development (GED), or Advanced Development Institute (ADI) plus, Completion of Hemodialysis Training Program and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. Minimum six (6) months clinical experience as dialysis technician is preferred. For hemodialysis technicians with experience prior to October 14, 2009, the applicant must be a certified patient care dialysis technician by any of the CMS approved certifying organization: (1) Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission (NNCC), (2) National Nephrology Certification Organization (NNCO); or (3) Board of Nephrology Examiners Nursing and Technology (BONENT). For hemodialysis technicians without prior experience, applicant must be certified by any of the CMS approved certifying organizations within 18 months of being hired as a hemodialysis technician in CHC. |
