Job Duties: | Performs the initial examination of obstetrical patients of the CHC-OB/GYN Service and unassigned obstetrical patients presenting to the Labor and Delivery Unit. Assumes responsibility for care, treatment, and delivery of patient. Operates the fetal monitor with both internal and external electrodes, acquires IV access, administers fluids and medications in accord with Unit protocols and Obstetrician instructions. Operates basic ultrasound device to confirm fetal presentation. Examines patient during pregnancy, utilizing physical findings, laboratory test results, and patient's statements to evaluate condition and ensure that patient's progress is normal. Communicates continually with on-duty CHC Obstetrician to ensure optimal care, progress of labor, and prompt surgical intervention when indicated. Stays with patient during labor to reassure patient and to administer medication. Delivers infant and performs postpartum examinations and treatments to ensure that patient and infant are responding normally. Contacts on-duty Pediatrician immediately in the case of concern for newborn well-being. When deviations from standard are encountered during pregnancy or delivery, administers stipulated emergency measures and arranges for immediate contact of on duty CHC Obstetrician. Evaluates patient during postpartum period in hospital to instruct patient in care of self and infant. Performs and repairs episiotomies; repairs 1st & 2nd degree lacerations. Contacts on-duty Obstetrician immediately in the case of 3rd or 4th degree lacerations. Documents care in the medical record and maintain records of cases for Unit statistics. Attends all annual review classes required by the Hospital. Attends all unit staff meetings and meetings of the Department of OB/GYN. Performs other related duties as assigned. |

Qualification Requirements: | Completion of an accredited midwifery training program. Must be licensed under Medical Professional Licensing Board (MPLB) as a Midwife in the CNMI. Posses a minimum of two (2) years experience in Labor and Delivery Unit or commensurate supervised practical training. |
