Job Title: Infection Control Specialist
Job Duties: A. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Identify and monitor specific healthcare associated infections (HAIs) performs targeted surveillance, outbreak investigations, and ad hoc projects as defined by the Infection Control Committee, Hospital Epidemiologist and the Board of Trustees. Collects, monitors and maintains records and data pertinent to surveillance. Assist/Reports surveillance, investigations, and projects as defined above to IC Coordinator. In the absence of the ICC, reports are shared to Corporate Quality and Performance Management (CQPM) Director and appropriate committees, administrative staff, including supervisors/managers. Assist IC Coordinator in conducting Sanitary rounds including other IC programs and monitoring. Assist IC Coordinator in making rounds of the different hospital units for the purpose of case definition, monitoring of infection control practice, and other related patient care issues. Assist the IC Coordinator for example: 1. Investigation of possible communicable disease exposures among health care workers, patients and/or visitors. 2. Tracing the possible sources of infection or transmission of microorganisms within the hospital. 3. Investigation clusters or outbreaks of infection or colonization. B. POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: Reviews and assists IC Coordinator in revising, updating or creating Infection Control policies or practices associated with Infection control as appropriate and as specified by CHCC's Policies and Procedure manual. Makes recommendations utilizing professional guidelines (CDC, APIC, etc.) to comply with regulatory and accrediting agencies such as federal, state and local health agencies and the Surveillance Plan/Infection Control Plan to reflect and meet any required changes. In collaboration with the Infection Control Committee Chairman and IC Coordinator, utilizes a risk assessment tool to draft the hospital's Surveillance Plan and annually reviews, evaluates and updates plan based upon surveillance data findings. Attend all meeting of the Infection Control Committee Chairman and participates in other committees as assigned by the CQPM Director. In the absence of the IC Coordinator, represents/attends to on his/her behalf to other IC issues, meeting and other gatherings as required by the department/corporation. C. COORDINATION & OTHER DUTIES: Acts as department liaison for Infection Control. Assists in planning with other departments and personnel to reduce the risk of disease transmission and improved infection control practices. Performs other job-related duties as assigned by IC Coordinator and/or CQPM Director.

Qualification Requirements: BS Degree in an accredited college or university in Medical Technology with U.S. License or Nursing RN License and/or a AS degree in Nursing with active RN License. BS Degree holder must have one (1) year experience as an Infection Control Practitioner/post graduate nursing in an acute care setting preferred. AS Degree holder must have three (3) years nursing experience in an acute care setting.
