Job Title: | Public Information Officer |
Job Duties: | Under the direct supervision of the Executive Director or designee. Serves as a liaison between CUC, the media and the public; plans, coordinates and disseminates public information utilizing various form of communication in an effort to educate and promote the organization’s projects and activities. Prepares copy of news releases; content for the CUC website; articles; newsletters; reports and creates various collateral materials. Develops and coordinates public outreach programs; researches and identifies outreach needs and recommends communication methods for the provision of information. Receives and responds to inquiries from the public, internal departments, and other agencies as well as coordinating with CUC Call center; may serve as representative at public meetings to address questions or issues, and to provide community updates. Designs and implements public information campaigns, events and programs; determines campaign or program goals and expected outcomes; plans, coordinates and prepares materials and activities to meet goals and objectives. Researches, gathers and maintains information and communication materials and archives. Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned. |

Qualification Requirements: | Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Public Administration or related field and 4 years or related public information experience. Proficiency in multiple languages (such as legally recognized language in the CNMI: English, Chamorro and Carolinian) is a plus. Knowledge of: Applicable Federal, Commonwealth, State and local laws, codes, regulations and/or ordinances; Public relations principles and techniques; Communication methods; Media relations principles, Customer relations principles; Modern Office Technology. Skills in: Interpreting and applying applicable laws, codes, regulations and standards; serving as a public information liaison and representative to the community; Planning, coordinating and disseminating public information; Determining information needs and promoting and educating the public; Preparing news releases, communications content, articles and collateral materials; Listening and responding to inquiries and effectively conveying information; Utilizing critical thinking and social perception to identify issues; Researching and preparing recommendations and responses; Designing and implementing programs and events; Measuring effectiveness of program delivery for future enhancements; Gathering and maintaining communication materials and information; utilizing a computer and relevant software applications; Utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public and others to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
