Job Title: Painter
Job Duties: Performed work related to fill cracks, holes, or joints with caulk, putty, plaster, other fillers, using caulking guns or putty knives. Cover surfaces with drop cloths or masking tape and paper to protect surfaces during painting. Smooth surfaces, using sandpaper, scarpers, brushes, steel wool, or sanding machines. Read work orders or receive instructions from supervisors to determine work requirements. Apply paint, stain, varnish, enamel, or other finishes to equipment, buildings, bridges, or other structures, using brushes, spray guns, or rollers. Erect scaffolding, movable and immovable staging and various rigging to gain access to difficult areas and to work above ground level; moves furniture and equipment as necessary. Remove fixtures such as pictures, doorknobs, lamps, and electric switch covers prior to painting. Mix and match colors of paint, stain, or varnish with oil or thinning and drying additives to obtain desired colors and consistencies. Calculate amounts of required materials and estimate costs, based on surface measurements or work orders. Polish final coats to specified finishes and remove paint splatters when finished. Clean up all equipment, including brushes and spray guns. May train and direct the work of other classified staff in the area. Perform other tasks or special project assigned by supervisor/Director or Management.
