Job Title: Staff Pharmacist
Job Duties: Under the supervision of the Pharmacy Manager, the incumbent is responsible for ensuring the prompt and accurate delivery of medications and assists the medical and nursing staff and other ancillary staffs in providing pharmaceutical care to the patients of the health center. The pharmaceutical service shall be staffed by professionally competent, legally qualified pharmacists. The location of the work is at the Commonwealth Health Center, primarily within the pharmacy department but also will have duties to and for other CNMI governmental agencies and departments such as and primarily within the Division of Public Health. The employee does have professional supervisory tasks. Participates in patient care through monitoring of patient’s drug therapy for safety, efficacy, and cost effectiveness with emphasis on utilizing pharmacologic and pharmacokinetic principles. Participates in the clinical services such as Antibiotic Stewardship Program. Participates in the development, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of quality improvement. programs including DUE, ADR, Medication error reporting, and clinical pathways. Provides accurate and timely drug information to patients and medical, nursing, and other allied health professionals. Participates in strategic planning to improve drug usage and patient outcomes ensuring cost effective drug utilization. Prepares and presents staff development programs and intradepartmental in-services. Serves as a preceptor/mentor for pharmacy interns, pharmacy technicians, and other students. Attends continuing education programs to maintain clinical proficiency. Actively participates on inter– and intra-departmental committees. Oversees the medication distribution system. Screens all physician treatment order sheets for appropriateness of drug therapy. Evaluates, finishes, and clarifies drug orders prior to dispensing. Reviews patient profiles, and consults with other health care professionals to assure appropriate drug therapy. Supervise the issuing of medications by pharmacy interns and technicians. Assures timely delivery of medications relative to patient needs and departmental policy. Oversees proper storage and inventory of medications. Ensures compliance with all the federal, local, and policies and procedures concerning controlled substances. Assists in the training of new personnel. Provides professional supervision to all department staff and assists the director of pharmacy in the administrative supervision of departmental staff. Ensures compliance with aseptic technique. Provides 24 hour a day pharmacy service on an “on-call” basis. Identifies problems related to aspects of drug use control and offers constructive ideas for resolution. Ensures that policies and procedures related to drug distribution are followed and complies with all other health center and departmental policies and procedures. Aseptically prepares chemotherapy in a manner to protect the working environment from exposure. May be occasionally required to provide pharmacy-related duties at the health centers of Tinian or Rota. Attends and participates in other programs, committees, meetings and functions required by the hospital or the pharmacy. Safety and infection control is the responsibility of all employees. Must report unsafe and unsanitary practices and conditions to a supervisor. Treats all patients, co-workers, physicians, and visitors with sensitivity, dignity, and respect. May be required to temporarily fulfill the duties and responsibilities of the Pharmacy Manager as assigned. Performs/works all other related duties as required by the Pharmacy Manager.

Qualification Requirements: A minimum of Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy from an ACPE approved college of pharmacy. Preferred Doctor of Pharmacy with ACCP approved residency program in clinical pharmacy practice. Must have a valid license in good standing to practice pharmacy in at least one U.S. state and licensed with the CNMI Healthcare Professions Licensing Board (HCPLB). A minimum of two years of hospital pharmacy experience at the level equivalent to staff or clinical pharmacist.
