Job Title: Combination Technician
Job Duties: Job Summary: The Combination Technician, under the indirect supervision of the Plant Technical Services Supervisor, installs residential and business landlines, maintains, and repairs underground copper cable; detects, isolates, and corrects copper cable system facility faults using OSP test equipment, including TDRs (Time Domain Reflectometers), cable fault locators to expeditiously restore service. The Technician excavates underground copper cable, including pedestal connections and customer drops to repair and restore service, if required. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The Employee will: 1. Respond to daily trouble tickets; install and restore residential and commercial telephone lines, DSL, FAX, and other telecommunication services to commercial and residential customers; install customer premise wiring when required; provide dial tones to customer premise equipment. 2. Perform Network Interface Device installation and repair of underground copper cable facilities, and exposing previously buried cable for repair or minor replacement. 3. Install terminals and connectors on copper; connect, cut off and remove cable station apparatus on service drops and wires, cross-connect wires, terminals, blocks, frames, protectors, carrier repeaters, loading coils, Pair-Gain Plus and Pair-Gain Flex technologies. 4. Install, splice, and test copper cable. 5. Use a variety of test equipment to isolate, identify, and analyze equipment abnormalities and take appropriate maintenance action; use TDRs to locate faults in copper cable facilities. 6. Respond to emergency situations; isolate and identify problems in telephone and DSL subscriber loops. 7. Locate cables and associated cable faults to quickly repair and restore service outages; repair cuts and other damages to cables; perform quality tests for new landline installations and on replaced or repaired cable. 8. Locate underground cables in rights-of-way or easements; monitor construction activity to prevent damage to cables. 9. Maintain, repair and rehabilitate pedestals to prevent further deterioration and loss of service to customers; replace pedestals as necessary. 10. Make recommendations to customers on additional telephone service, as needed. 11. Allow student interns to ‘shadow’ in telecommunications field work. 12. Perform other related duties or tasks as assigned or required.

Qualification Requirements: Minimum Qualification Requirements: Education: High school graduate or equivalent required; Technical school graduate desirable Experience: At least one year experience in outside plant installation and repair. Licensure/Certification/Professional Association: Valid driver’s license and ability to drive with manual gear shift required
