Job Title: Microbiologist
Job Duties: Perform a full range of professional microbiologist assignments in a full-functioning capacity which requires a considerable independent judgment to make decisions in carrying out assignments that have significant impact on services or programs. Guidelines may be available, but require adaptation or interpretation to determine appropriate courses of action. Isolate and identify microorganisms and maintains same in pure culture condition. Participate in microbiological, serological, hematological and virological examinations of specimens from human sources for identifying infections and determining the condition of patients. Take part in bacteriological, serological, virological, parasitological, and mycological examinations on a variety of samples, specimens, and products. Investigate the growth, structure, development, and other characteristics of microscopic organisms, such as bacteria, algae, or fungi. Carry out complement fixation, hemagglutination neutralization and other diagnostic serologic tests. Maintain records and prepares reports and correspondence related to the work. Perform microbiological examinations of patient specimens. Prepare culture media and other reagents. Perform and analyze results of serodiagnostic tests for syphilis, fungal infections and other diseases. Test purchased antigens and antiserum for conformity to standards of usability. Provide laboratory services for physicians needing information for diagnosis and treatment. Oversee the work of technologist, technicians and other scientists by making and reviewing work assignments, establishing priorities, coordinating activities, and resolving related work problems. Perform related work as assigned.
High School Diploma Required? Yes
Qualification Requirements: Bachelor's degree in microbiology, medical technology, clinical laboratory sciences, or a related field from an accredited college or university. Four years of professional experience in carrying out microbiology activities to diagnose human disease. Must be licensed by American Society of Certified Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent agency such as American Medical Technologist (AMT) or National Registry of Certified Microbiologist (NCRM) Certification. Must be licensed by the CNMI Healthcare Professions Licensing Board (HCPLB). Knowledge of the principles of microbiology, including bacteriology, hematology, mycology, parasitology, serology and virology; diagnostic problems involved in determining the cause and control of disease; and microbiological methods of analyses. Ability to adapt standard laboratory techniques and tests to meet the demands of specific problems; organize and coordinate the work of others and able to set priorities and assign work to other professionals.
