Job Title: | ENVIRONMENTAL SPECIALIST |
Job Duties: | Collect and analyze environmental samples based on EPA-approved method and standard operating procedures. Determine data collection methods in compliance requirements, including the facilitation of preservation, packing, transport and shipment for samples that require additional off-island laboratory services. Collect, synthesize, analyze, manage, and report environmental data, such as bacteriological quality reports, chemistry analysis of drinking water, inorganics, organics contaminants of water samples. Provide advice and guidance to Public Water Systems and other establishments on regulatory water standards and requirements to meet federal - EPA and/or local Bureau of Environmental (BE) and Coastal Quality (CQ) compliance regulations. Determine data collection methods for research projects, investigations, and surveys. Collect and compile environmental data from samples of soil and water for scientific analysis. Analyze samples, surveys, and other information to identify and assess threats to the environment. Provide information and guidance to businesses, and the public on possible environmental hazards and health risks. Design or direct studies to obtain technical environmental information about planned projects. Prepare technical reports and presentations that explain their research and findings. Secures and maintains laboratory certification mandated by USEPA Criteria. Supervises and monitors the Drinking Water Compliance Requirements of Public Water Systems in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI). Qualification Requirements: | Bachelor's degree in Biology (may be foreign equivalent). 24 months of experience as Laboratory Analyst, Microbiologist, or QA Staff. Water Treatment Plant Operator Level II Certification required. |
