Job Title: Legal Secretary
Job Duties: Prepare, proofread, or process legal documents, such as summonses, subpoenas, complaints, appeals, motions, or pretrial agreements. Mail, fax, or arrange for delivery of legal correspondence to clients, witnesses, and court officials. Receive and place telephone calls. Schedule and make appointments. Organize and maintain law libraries, documents, and case files. Make photocopies of correspondence, documents, and other printed matter. Assist attorney in collecting information such as employment, medical, and other records. Complete various forms, such as accident reports, trial and courtroom requests, and applications for clients. Submit articles and information from searches to attorney for review and approval for use. Make travel arrangements for attorney. Review legal publications and perform database searches to identify laws and court decisions relevant to pending cases. Attend legal meetings, such as client interviews, hearings, or depositions, and take notes.

Qualification Requirements: Associates Degree with at least 24 months of previous work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is required. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Software: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook; Legal Software: LexisNexis File & Serve; CM/ECF System for the District Court; Pacer - Public Access to Court Electronic Records. CJA eVoucher (Electronic Voucher Management System for use by Court-Appointed Counsel). U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Public Portal; U.S. DOL Appeals/Electronic Filing and Service Request System (EFSR). Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, stenography and transcription, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology. Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, agency rules, and the democratic political process. Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.

Comments: The job opportunity is a temporary, full-time position commencing on November 1, 2023 to October 31, 2024. THREE-FOURTHS GUARANTEE: Workers will be offered employment for a total number of work hours equal to at least three fourths of the workdays of the total period that begins with the first workday after the arrival of the worker at the place of employment or the advertised contractual first date of need, whichever is later, and ends on the expiration date specified in the work contract or in its extensions, if any. TRANSPORTATION AND SUBSISTENCE: If the worker completes 50 percent of the work contract period, the employer will provide, reimburse, or advance payment for the worker's transportation and subsistence from the place of recruitment to the place of work. Upon completion of the work contract or where the worker is dismissed earlier, the employer will provide or pay for the worker's reasonable costs of return transportation and subsistence back home or to the place the worker originally departed to work, except where the worker will not return due to subsequent employment with another employer or where the employer has appropriately reported a worker's voluntary abandonment of employment. The amount of transportation payment or reimbursement will be equal to the most economical and reasonable common carrier for the distances involved.
