Job Duties: Provides case management support to attorneys over a diversity of civil litigation, transaction matters and criminal cases from initial client interview through trial or case resolution; Provides assistance to attorneys on litigation and non-litigation matters. Conducts extensive research in substantial fields of law, including, but not limited to, contracts, torts, property, family law, real property actions, business disputes, personal injury, employment law, administrative law, commercial law, probate and criminal law; Analyzes legal sources, including, but not limited to relevant federal and CNMI statutes, judicial decisions, pertinent rules and regulations issued by government agencies, rules of court, rules of practice, digests, case reporters, annotated reports and restatements of law, and provides memorandum; Performs legal research and writing; Conducts research to support legal proceedings, to formulate a defense or to initiate legal action; Uses computerized legal research system such as Westlaw and computerized court electronic filing such as Lexis Nexis File and Serve and PACER; Interviews clients and witnesses; Prepares legal documents including pleadings, briefs, and contracts; Prepares pleadings such as complaint, answer, and third party complaint etc. after reviewing pertinent documents, doing research and interviewing client. Prepares motions, oppositions, replies and conducts research in relation to such motions; Prepares discovery requests such interrogatories, request for admissions and request for production of documents, and responses to discovery requests; Prepares complaints and responses to charges in EEOC cases; Assists attorneys during hearings and trials in the CNMI Courts and District Courts and administrative agencies, including preparation of litigation materials and documents, and during depositions; Prepares witnesses, exhibits, jury instructions, voir dire questions, trial briefs and trial notebooks; Conducts research on corporate documents at Registrar’s Office; Conducts research on leases and other recorded documents at the Commonwealth Recorder’s Office; Conducts research on legislative history of public laws; Performs electronic filing and service of court documents in the CNMI and District Courts; Prepares letters and correspondence; Summarizes depositions; Determines and prepares list of damages of clients; Drafts proposed orders, and findings of facts and conclusions of law; Determines response dates for submission of responses to pleadings and other legal documents; Reviews, organizes and analyzes voluminous documents in complex litigation cases; Researches foreign law; Acts as English-Tagalog translator in court or agency proceedings, depositions or client and witness conferences; Performs related duties as required or assigned.

Qualification Requirements: ER Preference: Requires a bachelor’s degree in law. Requires a minimum of 2 years of work-related skill, knowledge or experience in a law firm with strong research, writing and speaking skills including critical thinking, attention to details, and analytical and problem solving abilities. Must be literate in computer and computer applications and proficient in the use of legal research softwares or programs such as Westlaw and Lexis Nexis file and serve. Must have knowledge of laws, legal codes, courts procedures, precedents, government regulations, and agency rules. Fluent in English and Tagalog preferred. Requires ability to work under pressure and high stress situations. O-Net: Title Job Zone Three: Medium Preparation Needed Overall Experience Previous work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is required for these occupations. For example, an electrician must have completed three or four years of apprenticeship or several years of vocational training, and often must have passed a licensing exam, in order to perform the job.
