Job Title: Counselor
Job Duties: Participates in program review and outcomes assessment (PROA) activities. Provides high-quality student and internal and external customer service. Aside from being an academic advisor, the core function of this position is counseling student participants in the Student Support Services Program. This includes, but is not limited, to working with a variety of student and faculty/staff issues, academic skills development, academic & career decisions, substance abuse and personal problems, such as relationship and familial difficulties, anxiety or depression. Provides personal counseling intended to help students increase self-understanding, make personal decisions and take responsibility for individual actions. Counseling may be provided on an individual or group basis. Provides academic advising to SSS students who are in liberal arts, undecided, and those wanting to transfer to a 4-year college. · Helps SSS program students identify a career goal and educational direction, and provide information about related educational programs. · Helps SSS students with academic and personal adjustments to college, provides follow up on students known to need additional guidance. · Provides information and referrals to community resources as needed. · Uses College publications to explain and interpret academic standards, policies, regulations, student responsibilities, and deadlines governing adding/dropping of classes, final exams, etc. · Maintains accurate student records and submit required information according to deadlines set by the Director of Student Support Services. · Conducts workshops on counseling and other related subjects to enable SSS program participants to graduate and continue on to four-year colleges. · Provides exit advisement to SSS students leaving the college. · Assists in the coordination of services and advises SSS Program Site Coordinators in Tinian and Rota upon request. Performs other duties as required in the SSS Program.

Qualification Requirements: Bachelor’s degree from a U.S. Department of Education recognized accredited institution in Counseling or related field plus one (1) year of counseling experience. Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
