| Job Duties: | Formulates editorial policy and direct operation of newspaper, coordinates and directs editorial activities; confers with editorial policy committee, and heads of productions, advertising, and circulation departments to develop editorial and operating procedures and negotiate decisions affecting publication.Supervise workers who assist in selectingand preparing material for publication in magazines, trade, journals, related publication. Confers with executives, department heads, and editorial staff to formulate policy.Establish productiin schedules, solve publications problems, and discuss makeup plans and organizational changes. Determines theeme of issue and gathers related materials. Writes and assigns staff memebers or freelance writers to write articles, reports, editorials, reviews, and other material. Reads and evaluates materials submitted for publication consideration. secures graphic material from pictures sources and assign artists and photographers tp produce pictures and illustrations, personally interviews individuals and attend gatherings, to obtain items for publication, verify facts, and clarify information. Assign research and other editorial duties to assistants. Organizes material, plans overall and individuals page layouts, and selects type. Marks dummy pages to indicate position and size of printed and graphic material. Review and final proofs and aproves or makes changes. Reviews and evaluates work of staff members and makes recomendations and changes. perform related editorial duties listed under editorial. Directs activities of productions, circulation, or promotion personnel. Prepare news or public relations releases, special brochures, and similar materials.Be designated according to type of publication worked on as communication manager editor. reviews fiancial reports and atkes appropriate action with respect to cost and revenues.Represent publication at professional and community fuctions.In smaller establishments may perform duties of one or more subordinate editors and direct activities of advertising, circulation, or production personnel. Translate publications and other materials from one language to another. Reads publications and rewrites materials in specified language or languages. |
