Job Title: Chief Officer 53-5021.02 - (Mates- Ship, Boat, and Barge)
Job Duties: Commands ferryboat to transport passengers, or freight across lakes or rivers. Signals crew to close ferry gates and raise loading ramp, and signals engine room to start engines. Determines course and speed of ferryboat on basis of specialized knowledge of local winds, weather, tides and current. Steers ferryboat, or orders worker at helm to steer ferryboat toward slip (landing pier) on opposite side of water. Inspects ferryboat to ensure that passengers and crew observe regulations pertaining to safe and efficient operation of ferryboat. Signals engine room to reverse engines, and maneuvers ferryboat into slip. Performs other related duties that may be assigned. O-Net: Steer vessels, utilizing navigational devices such as compasses and sextants, and navigational aids such as lighthouses and buoys. Stand watches on vessels during specified periods while vessels are under way. Determine geographical positions of ships, using lorans, azimuths of celestial bodies, or computers, and use this information to determine the course and speed of a ship. Assume command of vessels in the event that ships' masters become incapacitated. Inspect equipment such as cargo-handling gear, lifesaving equipment, visual-signaling equipment, and fishing, towing, or dredging gear, in order to detect problems. Participate in activities related to maintenance of vessel security. Arrange for ships to be stocked, fueled, and repaired. Observe loading and unloading of cargo and equipment to ensure that handling and storage are performed according to specifications. Supervise crew members in the repair or replacement of defective gear and equipment. Supervise crews in cleaning and maintaining decks, superstructures, and bridges.

Qualification Requirements: ER Preference: Holder of a Panamanian License of Competency as First Deck Officer of 500 GRT or greater and all STCW Certificates for High Speed Passenger Ferries.Preferred had previous experienced on High Speed Passenger Ferries.Holder of a GMDSS Operator’s Certificate.Proficient in English both spoken and written.Had successfully completed and approved “International Safety Management” (ISM) Awareness Seminar.
