| Job Duties: | Erects, maintains, and repairs wood poles and prefabricated light duty metal towers, cable, and related equipment to construct transmission and distribution power lines uses to conduct electrical energy between generating stations, substations, and consumer. Directs and assists ground helpers in attaching cross arms, insulators, lightning arresters, switches, wire conductor, and auxiliary equipment to poles preparatory to erection, as instructed by supervisor, and engages in erection of poles or towers and adjustment of guy wires. Climbs erected poles or towers and installs equipment such as transformers, which are ordinarily installed after poles are erected. Strings wire conductors between erector poles and adjust slack in conductors to compensate for contraction and elongation of conductors due to temperature variations, using winch. Splices, solders, and insulated conductors and related wiring to join section of power line, and to connect transformers and electrical accessories. May trim trees and brush prior to new construction, during repair of damaged lines, or as part of routine maintenance. General maintenance and construction work including, but not limited to, lifting heavy objects, operating machinery, keeping the job site clean and free of debris and other related duties that may be assigned from time to time. Follows all safety measures and procedures while conducting any all of the above evolutions. O-Net: •Adhere to safety practices and procedures, such as checking equipment regularly and erecting barriers around work areas. •Open switches or attach grounding devices to remove electrical hazards from disturbed or fallen lines or to facilitate repairs. •Climb poles or use truck-mounted buckets to access equipment. •Place insulating or fireproofing materials over conductors and joints. •Install, maintain, and repair electrical distribution and transmission systems, including conduits, cables, wires, and related equipment, such as transformers, circuit breakers, and switches. •Identify defective sectionalizing devices, circuit breakers, fuses, voltage regulators, transformers, switches, relays, or wiring, using wiring diagrams and electrical-testing instruments. •Drive vehicles equipped with tools and materials to job sites. •Coordinate work assignment preparation and completion with other workers. •Inspect and test power lines and auxiliary equipment to locate and identify problems, using reading and testing instruments. •String wire conductors and cables between poles, towers, trenches, pylons, and buildings, setting lines in place and using winches to adjust tension. |
