| Job Duties: | Directs and coordinates activities of industrial organization to obtain optimum efficiency and economy of operations and maximize profits: Plans and develops organization policies and goals, and implements goals through subordinate administrative personnel. Coordinates activities of divisions or departments, such as operating, manufacturing, engineering, planning, sales, maintenance, or research and development, to effect operational efficiency and economy. Directs and coordinates promotion of products manufactured or services performed to develop new markets, increase share of market, and obtain competitive position in industry. Analyzes division or department budget requests to identify areas in which reductions can be made, and allocates operating budget. Confers with administrative personnel, and reviews activity, operating, and sales reports to determine changes in programs or operations required. Directs preparation of directives to division or department administrator outlining policy, program, or operations changes to be implemented. Promotes organization in industry, manufacturing or trade associations. Workers are usually identified according to industry in which employed, such as petroleum production or refining, iron and steel, electrical equipment; type of organization, such as air, rail, motor or water transportation; or type of product, such as paper, chemical, or plastics products. O-Net: •Oversee activities directly related to making products or providing services. •Direct and coordinate activities of businesses or departments concerned with the production, pricing, sales, or distribution of products. •Review financial statements, sales and activity reports, and other performance data to measure productivity and goal achievement and to determine areas needing cost reduction and program improvement. •Manage staff, preparing work schedules and assigning specific duties. •Direct and coordinate organization's financial and budget activities to fund operations, maximize investments, and increase efficiency. •Establish and implement departmental policies, goals, objectives, and procedures, conferring with board members, organization officials, and staff members as necessary. •Determine staffing requirements, and interview, hire and train new employees, or oversee those personnel processes. •Plan and direct activities such as sales promotions, coordinating with other department heads as required. •Determine goods and services to be sold, and set prices and credit terms, based on forecasts of customer demand. •Locate, select, and procure merchandise for resale, representing management in purchase negotiations. |
