| Job Duties: | Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation to find the best merchandise at the lowest possible purchase cost, buy goods and services for the company, find the best goods or services, choose suppliers, negotiate prices, and grant contracts that ensure that the right amount of the product or service is received when it is needed, should research sales records and inventory levels of current stock, find foreign and domestic suppliers, and stay current on any changes in either the supply of or demand from needed products and materials, find good supliers evaluate suppliers on multiple criteria on price, quality, service support, availability, reliability selection, should study catalogs, industry and company publications, directires, and trade journals, often on the internet, can use meetings, trade shows, conferences, and suppliers plants and distribution centers to inspect products and service, assess a suppliers production and distribution capabilities, and discuss other relevant considerations, further responsibilities vary according to the company and type of goods or services with they deal, purchaser needs to acquire various elements necessary for production, materials parts, machines supplies, services, obtain anything from raw materils machinery, construction services to fabricated parts, office supplies, must be familiar with the technical aspects of the goods or services they purchase, must work out any potential problems with a supplier, must also buy finished goods for consumer wants and needs for resale that they buy from wholesale and retail establishments, they must know what will attract consumers, it is crucial to keep current with the rates trends, must be proficient in computers so that they can efficiently take care much of the routine work, thereby freeing purchasing workers to focus on the analytical and qualitative side of their job, computers are good to find current listings of products and prices, track orders and inventory levels, and to help make purchases, computerized systems allow to operate much more efficiently, through point of sale terminals, organized instantly, access current sales and inventory figures which they can then use to produce accurate sales reports, ability to quickly ascertain customers buying habits, carries out responsibities in accordance with the organizations policies, good negotiating skills, excellent verbal communication skills, ability to communicate at all levels, excellent computer skills, must be proficient in microsoft word, excel, sound understanding and knowledge of purchasing and supply management, demonstrate ability by providing high quality customer service, sound knowledge of office procedures, review quotations, determined supplier, negotiates level of sale, place orders, check quantity and quality of incoming goods and services, arrange credit when necessary and authorize payment of invoices, complete relevant documentation and maintain the filing system of all purachese orders, invoices, and receipts, qualified condidates may have college degree and to be familiar with the goods they sell and with the nature of the wholesale and retail industries, and must have exellent computer skills, must be proficient in order processing, spreadsheet programs, as well as in the use of the internet. They should also know how to analyze technical data in suppliers proposal, be good communicators, and negotiator, have solid mathematical skills, understand supply chain management and be able to carry out financial analysis, need to be resourcefulness, good judgement, and self confidence, should know how to market products and identify items that will sell well, should have leadership potential.
