Job Duties: Compile records of amount, kind, and condition of cargo loaded on or unloaded from ship or aircraft. Verify amount of cargo against lists compiled from bills of lading or shipping manifests. Record condition of damaged cargo unloaded. Expedite and route movement of incoming and outgoing cargo and freight shipments in airline, train, and trucking terminals, and shipping docks. Take orders from customers and arrange pickup of freight and cargo for delivery to loading platform. Prepare and examine bills of lading to determine shipping charges and tariffs. Negotiate and arrange transport of goods with shipping or freight companies. Notify consignees, passengers, or customers of the arrival of freight or baggage, and arrange for delivery. Advise clients on transportation and payment methods. Prepare manifests showing baggage, mail, and freight weights, and number of passengers on airplanes, and transmit data to destinations. Determine method of shipment, and prepare bills of lading, invoices, and other shipping documents. Check import/export documentation to determine cargo contents, and classify goods into different fee or tariff groups, using a tariff coding system. Estimate freight or postal rates, and record shipment costs and weights. Enter shipping information into a computer by hand or by using a hand-held scanner that reads bar codes on goods. Retrieve stored items and trace lost shipments as necessary. Pack goods for shipping, using tools such as staplers, strapping machines, and hammers. Route inbound and outbound air freight shipments to their destinations: Take telephone orders from customers and arranges for pickup of freight and delivery to loading platform. Assemble cargo according to destination. Weigh items and determines cost, using rate book. Itemize charges, prepares freight bills, accepts payments and issues refunds. Prepare manifest to accompany shipments. Notify shippers of delays in departure of shipment. Unload inbound freight and notify consignees on arrival of shipments and arrange for delivery to consignees. May force conditioned air into interior of plane for passenger comfort prior to departure, using mobile aircraft-air-conditioning-unit. Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems. Compiling, coding, categorizing, calculating, tabulating, auditing, or verifying information or data. Communicating with people outside the organization, representing the organization to customers, the public, government, and other external sources. This information can be exchanged in person, in writing, or by telephone or e-mail. Identifying information by categorizing, estimating, recognizing differences or similarities, and detecting changes in circumstances or events. Entering, transcribing, recording, storing, or maintaining information in written or electronic/magnetic form. Ramp agents assist passengers when boarding and departing the aircraft. The ramp agent must be friendly with passengers at all times. Ramp agents are also responsible for guiding the bridge to the door of the plane for departure. Ramp agents load and unload baggage from the cargo areas. Agents must use care when sorting the baggage to avoid damage or loading the bags in the wrong area. Ramp agents must work quickly to load the baggage on the aircraft. Heavy lifting may be required, so ramp agents should be able to lift up to 70 pounds easily. One of the most important tasks a ramp agent has is to direct the aircraft on the ramp. The ramp agent must direct planes that are arriving and departing, as well as disabled aircraft that require towing. Agents use hand signals and flashlights to direct the aircraft. If the aircraft is moving to a parked location, the agent chocks the wheels by placing a wedge behind the wheels to prevent any movement. Ramp agents service the aircraft after it is brought onto the ramp and before it leaves for a flight. The ramp agent performs service duties, including washing windows, deicing, stocking food and beverage, and cleaning the interior of the plane. A ramp agent is responsible for keeping the tarmac free of debris, and may also refuel the aircraft as a part of their duties. The agent must perform safety checks on the equipment, such as the jet bridge. Perform other related duties as required or as assigned.

Qualification Requirements: ER Preference: Must have at least 6 months experience. Some previous work-related skill, knowledge, or experience may be helpful in these occupations. These occupations usually require a high school diploma and may require some vocational training or job-related course work. Can operate different specialized equipment for aircraft servicing and for ramp operations and must possess a valid CNMI Driver’s License. Must be able to lift up to 70 pounds in confined spaces. Must be flexible to work various shifts, weekends, or irregular shifts. Must be able to pass an initial exam, a drug/alcohol test/background check and be able to obtain airport security clearance. Must be able to stand, lift, bend, push and pull for extended time. Must be willing to work outside in all types of weather and elevated noise levels within the airport environment. KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of principles and methods for moving people or goods by air, rail, sea, or road, including the relative costs and benefits. Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. SKILLS: Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents. Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times. Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions. Using mathematics to solve problems. ABILITIES: The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences. The ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand. The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
