| Job Duties: | Splice overhead underground of multiple-conductor cables used in telephone communication system. climbs utility poles or towers or descent into underground vaults, manholes where cables are located. Cuts lead sheath from installed cables and conductors preparatory to splicing. Test (traces or phase-out) each conductors preparatory to identify corresponding conductors in adjoining cable sections,according to schematic diagram and specification, to prevent incorrect connections between individual communications circuit, using test probe or continuity tester. Cleans, tins, and splices corresponding conductors by twisting tip to tip and ring to ring ends together or by joining ends with mechanical and modular splice connectors. Cover splicing points with underground or buried splice closure fills with insulated gel compound for water and moisture proofing. May work on energized circuits to avoid interruption of service. May locate, repair and troubleshoot damaged cables. Must have knowledge in installation/wiring of telephone system. Can work without supervision and must be flexible. |
