| Job Duties: | Job Summary: The Accountant is responsible for accurate and timely analysis, summarization, and reporting of accounting activities to internal and external sources, in compliance with established IT&E guidelines, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, and Regulatory requirements; assists the Accounts Payable Coordinator, the Senior Accountant (Capital Accounts) and other senior accountants, as assigned. The Accountant works under the general supervision of the Accounting Operations Supervisor. A similar position may, as needed, be placed in the General Accounting/Regulatory Division performing division-relevant duties. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The Employee will: 1. Provide accurate and timely analysis, evaluation, and reporting of accounting activity in assigned functional area in accordance with corporate procedures and GAAP and regulatory requirements. 2. Assist the Accounts Payable Coordinator in the processing of payroll and related reports, filings and disbursements; review the submitted time sheets for proper account distribution and accuracy assist; in the preparation of required monthly, quarterly and annual tax filing for CNMI, Guam and federal government authorities. 3. Assist the Accounts Payable Coordinator in performing the accounts payable function; input and maintain information in the vendor master file; review check requisitions for proper authorization, supporting documentation, and coding as required by IT&E and regulating bodies; prepare checks for payment and submit to the Accounts Payable Coordinator for review and forwarding to the Accounting Operations Supervisor for approval. 4. Assist the Senior Accountant (Capital Accounts) in performing the Capital Accounting functions, reviewing work orders, maintaining work order ledgers and performing analyses, as directed. 5. Prepare timely journal entries for assigned business units for review by assigning responsible senior staff. 6. Ensure the accuracy of all transactions entering assigned accounting system. 7. Assists in month-end close; participates in month-end management financial reviews. 8. Respond to the needs of customers in the reconciliation of their accounts. 9. Assist other staff and functional areas in their areas of responsibility, as needed. 10. Perform other related duties or tasks as assigned or required. Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 1. Knowledge of: a. Basic principles and practices of office administration, communications and basic customer service etiquette b. Administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as computer operations, managing files and records, designing forms, maintaining property inventory and other office procedures and terminology c. GAAP, GAAS, CFR 47, Part 32, and PTI Finance/Accounting practices d. Technical and working understanding of JD Edwards accounting and report writer software, the ABRA Suite Payroll System, the IBM AS400 and TFS Billing Systems e. Structure and content of the English language, including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar 2. Skills in: a. Managing one's own time and the time of others b. Analyzing performance results to determine methods of improving service. c. Preparing written reports, statistics and analyses d. Use of personal computer hardware and Microsoft software programs to include MS Excel, Access, MS Outlook and Word 3. Ability to: a. Communicate clearly, concisely and accurately with all levels of staff, customers and the general public, both verbally and in writing b. Work as part of a team and provide assistance and guidance to other team members c. Learn, maintain and advance usage skills in the job-specific aspects of various computer hardware and software d. Make logical and sound decisions in the resolution of difficult and complex situations e. Perform in a self-directed, hard-working, creative and forward thinking manner |
