Job Title: Head Nurse (Renal)
Job Duties: Supervise and support the unit staff nurses. Assure that unit staff nurses’ delivers quality nursing care on the Hemodialysis Unit in accordance with CHCC and Hemodialysis Unit Policies and Procedures. Monitor the effectiveness of nursing care by staff nurses to verify that they utilize the nursing process (assessment, problem identification, goal setting, intervention/implementation, evaluation and documentation) is utilized. Monitor the consistency, accuracy and timely endorsement of staff nurses. Maintain a safe and clean environment in the unit for patients, visitors and other staff. Provide consistent and fair limits in Unit rules and regulations enforcement. Assume shift charge nurse responsibilities during assigned shift when the Unit is short staff or busy. Assign duties of staff nurses based on patient and Unit’s needs. Collaborate with treatment team members and other medical staff in to determine and coordinate the needs of the patients and the Unit. Review daily Discharge Planning of patients before and after receiving treatment in support of Unit staff nurses and patient’s needs. Maintain inventory of medicines, equipment and supplies within the Unit. Develop and submit on a timely manner, monthly reports, QAPI studies, equipment and supplies reports, and other vital information to the Director of Nursing. Ensure compliance of staff to universal precautions, isolation procedures, and physical precautions. Communicate with the Director of Nursing problems or questions within the Unit. Assist Medical Director for Hemodialysis in meeting with Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Conditions of Participation (CoPs) for the Unit. Report malfunctioning equipment to Biomed personnel for further troubleshoot and repair. Make frequent rounds to check the nursing stations status and to identify any needs of the staff and patient. Inspect the following: (i) crash cart to review if the nurses have checked it completely; (ii) narcotic record, if it is properly filled and signed supplies, if it is within the par level and (iii) equipment, whether it needs repair or maintenance update. Provide orientation/or supervision of new personnel as requested by the Director of Nursing. Attend and participate in staff meeting and in-services. Display respect for patients and act as advocate as necessary. Maintain effective and positive working relationships with other staff. Report to work as scheduled and maintains a satisfactory record attendance. Develop and present one staff in-service every month to improve nursing care. Identify nursing care needing improvement. Assist clinical coordinator in QAPI activities such as: collection of data; attending meetings; completing QAPI reports. Responsible for the accuracy of staff timecards, leaves and overtime slips and turn in the aforementioned items to personnel timekeeper in a timely manner. Perform management duties and responsibilities in the Hemodialysis Unit. Perform other related duties and other work that is required, assigned or instructed and accepts responsibilities designated.

Qualification Requirements: Associate or Bachelor of Science in Nursing from a recognized/accredited School of Nursing. Must pass the NCLEX-RN and must be licensed as a Registered Nurse by the Commonwealth Board of Nurse Examiners (CBNE) to practice nursing in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI). Must possess CPR/BLS Certifications. Must have four years plus BSN or six years plus ASN of recent nursing experience in a Hemodialysis Unit. Must possess current CPR/BLS Certifications. Must have good communication skills, self–motivated and proactive for quality improvement. Ability to work with people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Computer literate.
