| Job Duties: | Performs mill and cabinetwork. Repairs, finishes, constructs and alters various wooden articles and structures such as concrete blinding, counters, doors, window frames, fences, bookcases, tables, chairs, bulletin boards, baseboards, door jams, thresholds, cabinets, shelving and bathroom fixtures and partitions; installs drywall, plaster and siding. Performs rough carpentry for new and repair work; checks for and repairs damage to walls, floors, roofs, drywall and other structures; cuts, sizes and glues Formica in place; replaces fascias, sidings and ramp decking. Performs earthquake anchoring on cabinets, shelves and other furniture, repairs ceiling damage, installs suspended ceilings; operates saws, lathes, planers, shapers, jointers, sanders, hand saws and other tools and equipment; maintains and services tools and equipment; operates a sandblaster as required; works from sketches, plans, diagrams, drawings, photographs, blueprints and specifications; prepares cost estimates and orders materials as needed for completion of jobs; assists other skilled and semi-skilled trades personnel as assigned; schedules and coordinates activities with other district departments and staff; builds or erects, moves and works on scaffolding and ladders as necessary; procures necessary tools, equipment and supplies; ensure the timely and accurate completion of preventive maintenance activities; maintain records related to work performed; operate light- and medium-duty construction equipment. |

| Qualification Requirements: | The applicant must have journey-level knowledge of the practices, methods, techniques, tools and material used in the carpentry trade; and a working knowledge of the practices, methods, techniques, tools and material used in the construction, alteration, maintenance and repair of buildings, structures and related facilities, including carpentry, plastering, masonry and painting. The applicant must have knowledge and prior experience applying shop practices and safety precautions, and have a thorough understanding of applicable building codes and regulations, appropriate safety practices and procedures. The applicant must be able to perform skilled carpentry work in the alteration, repair and construction of wooden articles and structures. Utilize carpentry tools and machines, work from blueprints, rough drawings and sketches, and must be able to work independently with little direction. The applicant must have experience maintaining routine records and must be good at arithmetic. The position requires that the applicant obtain a CNMI Driver’s license upon first day of employment. Fluency in Mandarin preferred. |
