Job Title: Clinical Laboratory Supervisor
Job Duties: This position involves performing, advising on, or supervising clinical laboratory testing of human blood, urine, and other body fluids or tissues, using manual or automated techniques; confirming test results and developing data that may be used by physicians in determining the presence and extent of disease or in support of medical research; modifying or designing laboratory procedures; establishing and monitoring quality control systems and measures; and providing instruction in the basic theory, technical skills, and application of laboratory test procedures. The work includes areas such as hematology, bacteriology, immunohematology (blood banking), clinical chemistry and urinalysis as they relate to clinical laboratory practice. Develop new solutions to testing problems. Insure the adequacy of the scientific knowledge applied in the performance of required tests. Recognize and define testing problems and evaluating methods for their solution. Solve testing problems of an advanced or novel nature. Evaluate guides or possible alternative approaches to standards methods. Establish and monitor quality control/record keeping systems and measures to assure the accuracy and validity of test results. Develop instructions for converting from manual to automated testing systems. Plan and conduct training programs for medical laboratory technicians. Establish standards and write instructions for calibrating or standardizing instruments and equipment. Recommend addition of new tests to the laboratory's service. Performs the newer/more complex tests and examinations/laboratory testing of patient specimens as defined in policies and procedures and as designated and scheduled, including but not limited to: operation of lab instruments, troubleshoots malfunctions, appropriate documentation of all testing and instrument activity, maintaining lab supply inventory, participating, and assisting in educational and training activities. Participate in all Quality Assurance activities of the laboratory, as required. Analyze and records Quality Control on all test procedures per individual methodology protocol. Document QC results and action taken, if any, in the appropriate log book. Perform data collection and review for lab testing, as designated. Perform phlebotomy procedures on patients and handles and processes all specimens for lab testing appropriately. Communicate with Laboratory Director, and laboratory staff of any potential problems or complications with patient specimens and/or lab instruments. Follow assigned schedules to perform work duties in all designated areas of the laboratory and hospital. Follow schedules and emergency coverage to perform work duties, as assigned, for all shifts of laboratory operations (first, second, third, weekdays/weekends). Review, record, and release patient results in accordance with established protocol. Explain technical concepts to less experienced laboratory staff. Assist the Laboratory Director: - in the annual competency testing of the junior laboratory staff, - in the performance of oversight and review activities in the laboratory, - in developing laboratory policies and procedures, - in annual budget preparation and other related laboratory budgets. Supervise junior laboratory staff on a daily basis. Oversees the management of the Laboratory Services in the absence of the Laboratory Director. “24/7” On Call duty Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualification Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Science or Biology; must be licensed by American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent agency such as American Medical Technologist (AMT) or National Clinical Laboratory Scientist (NCLS). Must be licensed by the CNMI Healthcare Professions Licensing Board (HCPLB). Minimum of five (5) years and applicable clinical laboratory experience. Applicants with non-U.S. credentials must have proven and applicable experience in JCAHO, CAP or HCFA accredited hospitals. Ability to communicate effectively and organize work in order to meet deadlines. Knowledge of laboratory computer system.
