Job Duties: | Essential Duties: Identify and monitor specific healthcare associated infections (HAIs) and perform targeted surveillance, outbreak investigations, and ad hoc projects as defined by the Infection Control Committee, Hospital Epidemiologist and the Board of Trustees. Collect, monitor and maintain records and data pertinent to surveillance. Assist/Reports surveillance, investigations and projects as defined above to the Infection Control Preventionist (ICP). In the absence of the ICP, reports are shared to Corporate Quality and Performance Management (CQPM) Director and appropriate committees, administrative staff, including supervisors/managers. Assist ICP in conducting sanitary rounds including other Infection Control programs and monitoring. Assist ICP in making rounds of the different hospital units for the purpose of case definition, monitoring of infection control practice, and other related patient care issues. Assist the ICP e.g. (a) investigate possible communicable disease exposures among healthcare workers, patients and/or visitors; (b) trace the possible sources of infection or transmission of microorganisms within the hospital; and (c) investigate clusters or outbreaks of infection or colonization. Policies and Procedures: Review and assist ICP in revising, updating or creating Infection Control policies or practices associated with Infection control as appropriate and as specified by the Corporation’s Policy and Procedure Manual. Make recommendation, utilizing professional guidelines (CDC, APIC, etc.) to comply with regulatory and accrediting agencies such as federal, state and local health agencies and the Surveillance Plan/Infection Control Plan to reflect and meet any required changes. In collaboration with the Infection Control Committee (ICC) Chairman and ICP, utilize a risk assessment tool to draft the hospital’s Surveillance Plan and annually review, evaluate and update plan based upon surveillance data findings. Attend meetings of the ICC Chairman and participate in other committees as assigned by the CQPM Director. In the absence of the ICP, represent/attend, on his/her behalf, other infection control issues and meetings as required. Coordination and Other Duties. Act as department liaison for Infection Control. Assists in planning with other departments and personnel to reduce the risk of disease transmission and improved infection control practices. Perform other job-related duties as assigned by ICP and/or CQPM Director. |

Qualification Requirements: | Completion from an accredited medical professional program with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Biology, Public Health, Medical Technologist or other related field required. Plus Five years of nursing experience in an acute care setting, one year of Infection Control preferred. Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse (NCLEX-RN) by the CNMI Commonwealth Board of Nurse Examiners (CBNE). Possess good listening and time management skills. Data collection, analysis and interpretation are essential. Ability to work closely and effectively with physicians, hospital staff, co-workers and patient/families or individuals from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Highly organize and work independently with minimum supervision. Computer literate. |
