Job Duties: | Perform the initial examination of obstetrical patients of the OB/GYN Service and unassigned obstetrical patients presenting to the Labor and Delivery Unit. Assume responsibility for care, treatment, and delivery of patient. Operate the fetal monitor with both internal and external electrodes, acquires IV access, administer fluids and medications in accord with Unit protocols and Obstetrician instructions. Operate basic ultrasound device to confirm fetal presentation. Examine patient during pregnancy, utilizing physical findings, laboratory test results, and patient's statements to evaluate condition and ensure that patient's progress is normal. Communicate continually with on-duty CRC Obstetrician to ensure optimal care, progress of labor, and prompt surgical intervention when indicated. Stay with patient during labor to reassure patient and to administer medications. Deliver infant and performs postpartum examinations and treatments to ensure that patient and infant are responding normally. Contact on-duty Pediatrician immediately in the case of concern for newborn well-being. When deviation from standard are encountered during pregnancy or delivery, administer stipulated emergency measures and arrange for immediate contact of an on duty CRC Obstetrician. Evaluate patient during postpartum period in hospital to instruct patient in care of self and infant. Perform and repair episiotomies; repair 1st and 2nd degree lacerations. Contact on-duty Obstetrician immediately in the case of 3rd or 4th degree lacerations. Document care in the medical records and maintain records of cases for Unit statistics. Attend all annual review classes required by the hospital and all unit staff and OB/GYN departmental meetings. Perform other related duties as assigned. |

Qualification Requirements: | Completion of an accredited midwifery training program. Must be licensed by the CNMI Healthcare Professional Licensing Board (HCPLB) as a Midwife. Possess a minimum of two years experience in the Labor and Delivery Unit or commensurate supervised practical training. Ability to work with people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. |
