Job Duties: Supervise 8 personnel with job position of: News Editor; Sports Editor; Senior Reporter ; Community Writer; Assignments Writer Special Projects Writer; Editorial Assistant; Intern Read copy or proof to detect and correct errors in spelling, punctuation, and syntax. Verify facts, dates, and statistics, using standard reference sources. Read, evaluate and edit manuscripts or other materials submitted for publication and confer with authors regarding changes in content, style or organization, or publication. Develop story or content ideas, considering reader or audience appeal. Prepare, rewrite and edit copy to improve readability, or supervise others who do this work. Oversee publication production, including artwork, layout, computer typesetting, and printing, ensuring adherence to deadlines and budget requirements. Write text, such as stories, articles, editorials, or newsletters. Supervise and coordinate work of reporters and other editors. Confer with management and editorial staff members regarding placement and emphasis of developing news stories. Plan the contents of publications according to the publication's style, editorial policy, and publishing requirements. Review and approve proofs submitted by composing room prior to publication production. Assign topics, events and stories to individual writers or reporters for overage. Meet frequently with artists, typesetters, layout personnel, marketing directors, and production managers to discuss projects and resolve problems. Monitor news-gathering operations to ensure utilization of all news sources, such as press releases, telephone contacts, radio, television, wire services, and other reporters. Select local, state, national, and international news items received from wire services, based on assessment of items' significance and interest value. Allocate print space for story text, photos, and illustrations according to space parameters and copy significance, using knowledge of layout principles. Make manuscript acceptance or revision recommendations to the publisher. Direct the policies and departments of newspapers, magazines and other publishing establishments. Arrange for copyright permissions. Interview and hire writers and reporters or negotiate contracts, royalties, and payments for authors or freelancers.

Qualification Requirements: Education: BACHELOR'S DEGREE MAJOR JOURNALISM; CREATIVE WRITING; OR ENGLISH. 48 months work experience. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Work experience in progressive journalism, and newspaper management experience with a strong story evaluation and production. Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents. Communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience/reader. Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar. Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods. This includes alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral, and visual media. Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, stenography and transcription, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology.

Comments: The job opportunity is a temporary, full-time position commencing on October 1, 2020 to September 30, 2023 THREE-FOURTHS GUARANTEE: Workers will be offered employment for a total number of work hours equal to at least three fourths of the workdays of the total period that begins with the first workday after the arrival of the worker at the place of employment or the advertised contractual first date of need, whichever is later, and ends on the expiration date specified in the work contract or in its extensions, if any. TRANSPORTATION AND SUBSISTENCE: If the worker completes 50 percent of the work contract period, the employer will provide, reimburse, or advance payment for the worker's transportation and subsistence from the place of recruitment to the place of work. Upon completion of the work contract or where the worker is dismissed earlier, the employer will provide or pay for the worker's reasonable costs of return transportation and subsistence back home or to the place the worker originally departed to work, except where the worker will not return due to subsequent employment with another employer or where the employer has appropriately reported a worker's voluntary abandonment of employment. The amount of transportation payment or reimbursement will be equal to the most economical and reasonable common carrier for the distances involved.
