Job Title: | Aircraft Mechanic |
Job Duties: | Summary of duties: Diagnose, adjust, repair or overhaul aircraft engines and assemblies to ensure airworthiness. Specific tasks: •Repairs, replaces, and rebuilds aircraft structures, such as wings and fuselage, and functional components including rigging, surface controls, and plumbing and hydraulic units, using hand tools, power tools, machines, and equipment such as shears, sheet metal brakes, welding equipment, rivet and drills. •Reads and interpret manufacturer's and airlines maintenance manual, service bulletins, and other specifications to determine feasibility and methods or repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components. •Examines engines for cracked cylinders and oil leaks, and listens to operating engine to detect and diagnose malfunctions, such as sticking or burned valves; •Tests engine operation, using testing equipment such as ignition analyzer, compression checker. distributor timer, and ammeter to locate source of malfunction; •Replaces or repairs worn or damaged components, such as carburetors, alternators, and magnetos, using hand tools, gauges, and testing equipment; •Removes engine from aircraft, using hoists or forklift truck; •Disassembles and inspects parts for wear, warping, or other defects, repairs or replaces defective engine parts and reassembles and installs engine in aircraft; •Adjust, repairs, or replaces electrical wiring system and aircraft accessories; •Performs miscellaneous duties to service aircraft, including flushing crankcase, cleaning screens, greasing moving parts, and checking brakes. |

Qualification Requirements: | •Must possess a mechanic certificate with airframe and powerplant ratings issued by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration in accordance with Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 65 Subpart D. •Must meet the recency requirements under 14 CFR 65.83 (B): A certificated mechanic may not exercise the privileges of his certificate and ratings unless, within the preceding 24 months – (b) He has, for at least 6 months - (1)Served as mechanic under his certificate and rating; (2)Technically supervised other mechanics; (3)Supervised, in an executive capacity, the maintenance or alteration of aircraft; or (4)Been engaged in any combination of paragraph (B) (1), (2), or (3) of this section. •Must pass a DOT/FAA pre-employment drug test requirement under Title 14 CFR 120.109(a)(1): No employer may hire any individual for a safety-sensitive function listed in 120.105 unless the employer first conducts a pre-employment test and receives a verified negative drug test result for that individual. |
